Hospital: Dissecting the big blue guy

Updated: Aug 12, 2021

Another dissection is coming your way! It's Hospital and dissection fit perfectly with this episode. Let's begin.

Another day at the Heeler house. Bingo is playing some kind of climbing game with Bandit. Very cute indeed. This is the first time we see the kitchen, so let's get dissecting...

So we have the usual kitchen stuff, such as a toaster and kettle. They seem to be the same style and colour, perhaps came as a combo or a product line?

This is obviously a tap. But what caught my eye is that the family doesn't have a tap water filter. Perhaps it's in the pipes instead of the tap, but the most commonly used one is, of course, the tap attachment.

Salt and pepper grinder shakers. Though who needs that much anyway. Don't you normally keep the shakers on your dining table? Perhaps they have four of these.

We have the usual garlic, a bowl of strawberries and a jar of something. We can't tell what it is other than that it is yellow.

Oven and stove. Though I can't tell whether the knobs we can see are for the oven or for the stove. Those knobs seem to be in easy reach of the kids. Not a good thing.

This house is riddled with house plants. Almost any free space there is in the house, there is a house plant there. Though it is very nice to have some greenery in the establishment.

The kitchen has two really wide windows, creating a great environment to work in. The fresh air and the view of the backyard must be amazing.

A plank of wood I suppose. Doesn't seem to be a ruler since there arent many marking on it. We can see stars stuck on it, with a few lines here and there. Must be a measuring stick for Bluey and Bingo, they must’ve stuck stickers where their new hight is. Since there is only one pair of stickers, this concept is new to the house.

A mini chalkboard with a sticky note next to it and a chalk holder underneath. Looks like a drawing of Bandit done by one of the kids. The sticky notes presumably from one of the adults, perhaps a to-do list or shopping list. If the kids did draw Bandit up there, how the heck did they reach so high? It's worth noting that the chalkboard is in the shape of a pineapple, meaning that they probably bought it for the kids for fun or as a novelty.

Let's continue...

"Hospitals!" So back to the actual scene. Bandit asks the girls if they can play a game where he can relax, where he can lie down on a bed or something. The girls say Hospital, which has Bandit groaning and remarking not to play hospitals while rubbing his back. Alluding that Hospitals is going to be one heck of a game.

I love the fact that in most episodes, the image in the title card is so out of context for the name of the episode. It really wants you to engage in the rest of the episode, and it's a unique touch to the show.

So we saw this room last in The Magic Xylophone and it really hasn't changed since. The fact that the mattresses, table and chairs are already there before the games start, means that the girls must have prepared the area before calling Bandit to play. Or they told Bandit to wait while they prepared the scene.

"My name is Telemachus" According to tvtropes.org, Bandit calls himself Telemachus because the writer for the show likes Ulysses 31. After Bandit lies down, Bingo explains to him that she's not the doctor but the nurse. She goes on to tell him how the remote for the bed works, and which buttons make the bed's sides go up or down.

I do want to make this point, that is Bandit pulls the mattress up and down whenever the 'remote' is used. We can easily see Bandit's hand reach up or down and grab the edge of the mattress to pull it. This can mean that they have played this game before, and Bandit knows what is most likely going to happen.

The remote seems to be a block of wood or the like with heart-shaped stickers on it. Obviously a quick makeshift toy made by the girls.

Let's move on

"I'm actually a bit nervous at hospitals" "There is no need to be nervous" The personalities of Bingo and Bluey are really contrasted in this episode. In this scene, Bingo is seen confronting Bandit when he admits he's scared at the hospital, and Bingo, reassuring everything is going to be alright, is very heart melting indeed.

Bluey makes a surprise entrance, scaring both Bandit and Bingo suddenly. As soon as Bluey enters, the music suddenly changes to a high pitch for a few seconds then reverts to normal. This really signifies that Bluey is the cheeky and goofy one, really showing the contrast in personalities between the girls.

This scene really starts off the plot in the episode. Bluey stings Bandit with a block, which Bluey calls a needle. Bandit recoils and jumps a bit. Bingo then goes up to him, gives him a bandaid and tells him "Good boy!"

"Have you got a baby in there?!" That question makes Bandit question his sanity. Funny how Bluey uses her stethoscope to confirm if there really is a baby. We can still see Bingo being very comfortable with Bandit, while Bluey is basically harassing Bandit through this game.

The second needle of the game and Bandit's face clearly reads Please kill me. Bluey tells nurse Bingo to conduct an x-ray on Bandit to check if there is a baby in him. She then leaves by yelling Bye!

Bingo is very compassionate and tells Bandit that the x-ray is for his own good. The x-ray is literally a shoebox which is weird since we haven't seen any of the characters wear any shoes, let alone socks.

I love how preparing the x-ray is actually drawing the outcome. Meaning that Bingo can choose what the outcome is, and can choose how the plot moves. Basically there are no barriers in the game. And that's the best thing since children should have such gameplay where they choose the plot and ending.

Sneak 500 How are these kids so good at sneaking and creeping up on people? Also, if Bluey is the manic doctor and is creeping up like that, is she going to give another needle?

I spoke too soon.

"Can that be the last injection Bluey...I mean doctor?" "Nope!" Another great example of Bluey's personality within the game. Bluey has so subtly said no, but that being subtle can hurt a hundred hearts. This also shows that when Bandit said Bluey the first time, he was obviously being serious and was not in the jist of the game.

OUCH. The amount of torture Bandit goes through to make his girls happy is unbelievable. Bluey is just smiling while taking off the bandaid like it's something she does every day.

You know the anxious feeling when you go to the doctors to get your x-ray results? Bandit was kinda exhibiting all those feelings as Bluey whipped out this result. Bingo's drawings are better than what I can draw in 15 hours. Look at that detail on Bandit's face. I can never recreate something so majestic. "Look...It's a...possum?"

"That's not a possum, it's a cat!" "Oh yes, you have a cat in your belly" Love the fact that Bluey actually listened to Bingo, maybe a lesson learnt from The Magic Xylophone. The anger on Bingo's face and the shock on Bluey tells that Bluey will listen to her.

"Did you eat one?" "No" "Well no one really knows how cat's get in your belly, but probably through your belly button" Points to a random place on the stomach. Well if I'm sick, I know now that Doctor Bluey can cure me easily. She will just...

"We'll have to operate" She'll just operate on me. The pace of the game has really picked up at this point and the music has really started to pick up pace too.

Ok, we can clearly see that some weird stuff is about to unfold. Bluey holding handheld beaters is clearly not a good sign. I still can't tell if that's real or a very realistic toy. If it is real, why would Bandit let her have it? And how do you have a random handheld blender lying around your house? Beats me.

"Here's a magazine to read" I guess Bluey's definition of an operation is to cut open, fix and close. Though that magazine does seem interesting...

Looks like a random dog with a thought bubble kind of thing above it. Seems to me like a children's magazine, the type of colouring and activities. It makes sense for the girls to have this magazine with them since Bandit's magazine might not suit them...

So Bandit finally raises awareness of putting him to sleep. Bingo then retrieves a party hat and snaps it over his snout. If only all masks were this colourful. Again, Bingo has a very soothing tone as she tries to put him to sleep. Bandit's face just screams confusion and agony.

How the heck does Bluey always have that block ready to sting? Bandit should be dead by now.

"BLUEY!" "You're meant to be asleep!" "NO MORE NEEDLES!" You can really tell that Bandit is not joking around anymore and you can see it coming that if she stings him one more time, Bandit is going to jump off the cliff. The face that Bluey is making in this scene is bloody brilliant. You can also see Bingo's expression of being a bit sad and heartfelt, as she feels sorry for Bandit. We've been seeing this from the start.

If only every operation was a nice massage with a bit of sweet pain.

Now that the operation has begun, it raises a few question marks. Is Bluey pretending that something is stuck inside Bandit's stomach, or is something actually stuck to the side?

Or why there is a random octopus toy in Bandit's stomach? If I can recall, in the first few scenes where we see the bare operating room, there is nothing next to the mattresses.

Yep, there is nothing there around the mattresses. Though we can't see behind them where the stools are, I'm pretty sure there aren't any hand-held blenders and octopus plushies there.

So because the octopus is not the cat the doctors are looking for, they stuff it back into the patient. If I get the Coronavirus, I know which doctor I'll be visiting.

So Bingo throws the remote to Bluey. But for what reason? How the bloody heck is that going to help get that octopus back in? Though I do want to say that how the heck is the octopus just floating there? Is it stuck to Bandit's side or something? So many questions.

What better way to push an octopus down someone's belly than banging it with the remote that controls the patient's bed. Genius.

Everyone saw this coming. Bluey dropped the remote into Bandit's stomach. Wait. Let's comprehend. So the octopus is stuck in the opening, but the remote still falls in. So the Octopus must be stuck to Bandit's side for the game and the remote was dropped since it wasn't? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How are the buttons in the stomach being pressed to control the bed? Oh wait, there is a cat and octopus inside, they must be pressing them. The faces that Bingo makes in the next few frames are just... I don't know.

That's another three images that I can add to my Bingo folder.

Now look carefully at the following scenes.

In this scene, Bluey is still struggling to get the octopus back in and is digging in deeper to find the cat.

The scene zooms in suddenly in and we can't see the octopus anymore, though Bluey remarks that she can see the cat.

Here's a close-up.

"Give me something to whack it with"

Bluey must be good at whack-a-mole. Again, where did Bingo get a random inflatable hammer from? Was it just lying around the room? Though we debunked that since the room was shown empty at the start, and we haven't cut to a different room yet.

Love how they close up to Bandit's face. The agony he's experiencing is hilarious.

Bingo just randomly had a flashlight around. I love the fact that it's so sunny outside, they still use the torch to complete the game.

So the cat bit Bluey. Alexa, play sad piano music. I wonder if the bandages that Bingo is using are the real thing. If they are, how are Bandit and Chilli letting them waste good medical resources?

"You mean you can't make him feel better?" This scene is just heartbreaking. Bingo is just so torn apart about the fact that they can't fix Bandit up. This scene I think is the biggest show in contrast between the two girls' personalities.

Savage 500 Bluey is just a mean old doctor. That must have hurt a lot. Kudos to Bandit for playing so into the game.

The smug look on Bluey's face just kills it. Bingo still has a disappointed face plastered on her. I wonder where she got the clipboard from now. And a wooden one too?

Bluey has other patients to look after. She storms off like she's getting paid 100k a year. Though the room is now cluttered. Time to analyse....

How do you even throw a beater so far? I can't even hold one and here we have Bluey throwing it across the room.

This clipboard represents doctors handwriting. The signature and paw print look too formal to be made by the kids. It's probably its a printout. There seems to be another piece of paper underneath. Perhaps multiple printouts.

Bingo coming to reassure Bandit and holding his hand is so wholesome. She really cares about Bandit. Ugh, the cuteness is too much.

Looks like Bingo is going to alter the x-ray to make the operation work later on. Just a hunch. Bandit looks dead inside.

Yep, dead.

So we have a new room. Maybe not a new room, maybe part of the previous one. But still, it's interesting. So it looks like this room is set up to be the general patient area in the hospital. I really need to know how many cushions does this family have for playing with, let alone for sitting.

Seems to me like one of those computer thingys in hospitals (I don't know what it's called). The fact that it's on a stool shows the realism that the girls try to put in the game, as in a real hospital such a computer will be on a stand. We can also see it's one of those children computers that you can get from Kmart for 20 bucks. We can also see that the piece of paper that's stuck to the screen to represent a heartbeat reading is stuck by Blu Tack, as we can see the little blobs of it on the top and bottom of the paper.

Then we have this uhh..piece of cloth in the colours of the rainbow hanging down from the roof. Does this family really like keeping their house vibrant?

Looks like random drawings the girls must have done, though that pencil does look like a trip hazard. Two of the drawings are just scribbles; wavy lines. Though a few lines can tell a thousand stories. Anyway, The other paper with orange splodges seems like a sticker sheet. Majority of the stickers are peeled out, but there is still one little sticker remaining in the corner.

Wait, wait, wait. Hold up. Didn't Bluey leave the clipboard in the operating room? The clipboard also has the paper that we saw in the operating room. In this scene, we can really see the status of Bingo and Bluey, as Bingo is acting very modest in this scene, Bluey is very loud.

At first, when Bingo tells Bluey to have a look at the modified x-ray results, she shoots back by saying that if it's from the big blue guy, there is nothing they can do. Bingo insists, and Bluey gives in and is surprised to see the altered x-ray.

The amount of cuteness Bingo is showing in this scene is not comprehensible. She is finally happy that she has won Bluey's interest over to fix Bandit. Ahhh the cuteness is too much! The music from this point upwards is more upbeat too.

"Hello, big blue guy!" "His name is Telemachus" I think that is self-explanatory. Bingo is just pissed off.

"Something else has turned up on your x-ray, Telemachus" So we can see that Bluey is now actually listening to Bingo since she has been more helpful in Bluey's eyes.

"Ohh, it's a....pot plant?"

"Nooo, it's a mouse!" "Oh of course, a mouse." I gotta say, Bingo's drawings are very realistic.

"I think you swallowed a mouse." "Then the cat ran in after it." "Because cats chase mice." Gosh, the girls have such good reasoning they can probably write their own episodes.

"What if we lured the mouse out?" "With some cheese." "Then the cat will chase the mouse." "Right out of my belly!" "Yeah!" Considering the master plan that can get both the cat and mouse out, if the girls were in charge of the UN, they would have probably solved all the world's issues.

Now I can't really tell whether this cheese is a toy, or that Bandit just lets them play with food. I love the fact that they used the stereotypical cheese, swiss cheese, as the cheese for the game. Though they did need a hole to loop the rope around so maybe swiss cheese was the choice after all. They also used the generalisation of all mice love eating cheese, kinda showing what the girls are exposed to, and to what they build their game upon. Woah, that's a little bit in-depth for just a piece of cheese.

This is a scene I thought I'll never see in my entire life. The stick being used by Bingo is obviously a raw stick, probably from the backyard. So they went outside to get it? Or they have a huge random stick lying inside for just these circumstances.

So Bluey pulled the mouse out of Bandit's mouth. Well not directly. She obviously pulled behind and just pulled out the plushie. Speaking of which, does this family have a plushie of every animal of existence? I wonder if they have human plushies too...

And like according to their plan, the cat follows the mouse out of Bandit's belly.

If anything came out of Bandit's stomach, I would never hug, let alone a cat. We can see that Bluey is very welcoming and nice in this scene as she feels that she has accomplished something great during the game. And that is the type of games any child should always play.

This really shows the strong bond and relationship between Bandit and Bingo. The way Bandit says thank you to her is so heartwarming, he always held faith in her. The way Bingo touches Bandit affectionately also conveys the bond they have together. In my opinion, I feel like Bingo has issues speaking up and so on, so Bandit goes easy on her and therefore such a great relationship is held. I'm going to put all of this in a future post where I'll look into the personalities of the characters.

"Well if that's that, I guess I'll be on my way." "Oh, one more thing." "What's that?"

I'm with you there Bandit. After such a traumatising operation, what else does the doctor want?

Of course, Bluey couldn't resist giving another needle. Well, that brings us to the end of this episode. The ending is quite humourous, giving the audience the impression that this episode was filled with fun and games. The episode has really subtly hidden some lessons to learn. Very well hidden that even I couldn't spot it on the first few viewings, unlike The Magic Xylophone, where the lesson was hidden but could be spotted easily. The lesson is really for Bluey, to always listen to others around you, to always be compassionate, and maybe, in the end, you might achieve something great. I also have to comment on the outside scenery of the episode. The view from the verandah is always visible throughout the episode, and Ludo has not forgotten about it.

We see that the clouds are moving occasionally, with the new one moving in and so on. There is also the visualisation of wind, with a few leaves blown here and there and the tree swaying. We also see the occasional bird fly by. The realism put into the show is unbelievable.

The Music

The music used in this episode is an upbeat a capella made by one the only, Joff Bush. It's really nice to see different soundtracks in almost every episode, not like other shows that use that one theme tune and alter it. The fact that Ludo can actually pull this off for every episode is great and gives the show such a unique feel. I really haven't watched a show where an original made a capella was used.

Finally

This episode certainly has a great message hidden under the cover. It also shows the difference of personality between Bluey and Bingo, while showing the strong bond between Bingo and Bandit. This is a wholesome episode, and that's a fact. Also on a side note, there were no long dogs in this episode, apart from a few balls here and there. If you want to have more fun with this episode, make sure to listen to Gotta be Done - The Bluey Podcast Episode 60 - Hospitals. It's bloody amazing!
